BOLD VISIONS CONSERVATION: BE A CITIZEN OF THE WORLD

wolves

No species speaks wildness nor lives it life as fully as the wolf. From the northern gray, to the red and Mexican, they remain iconic. Yet, they have been the subject of misinformation and an indiscriminate killing spree by the US Government for far too long.

The war has started up once again, the result of weak politicians, the old school rage of ranchers and by some in the sportsmen community and outfitters.

Conservation groups by and large pressed a path of reaching out to ranchers and rural communities in hopes of creating working coalitions. However the history of many in the ranching community is one of mistrust and many in the Tea Party Movement are opening the door to class warfare, and the wolf has become yet again of stupidity.

Our goal is simple, we will not allow this to continue, we must organize the urban communities of all states involve and press our clear advantage in population and voices.

READ ALL ABOUT MEXICAN GRAY WOLVES HERE!

We must make the point that as a rancher it is a privilege, not a right to graze on federal lands, and part of that privilege should be to SHARE the lands with wolves.

Our voice can make the difference. Ranchers and others have been passionate about killing; we must show far more passion and demand life, for wolves. We must also demand real science, not cooked science that fits a conservative political agenda.

We hope to have a DVD presentation in the coming months, use it to educate those who would kill, use it to be a voice for wolves!

How YOU and Bold Visions Conservation Will Stop Wolf & Wildlife Slaughter in America

Download the printable version

People always ask us:

“How can we stop the endless killing of wolves and wildlife in America?”

The answer is simple: change tactics!

Below is a synopsis of the strategy of Bold Visions Conservation (BVC), and why our new way of thinking sets us apart from conventional conservation groups (especially national groups), who remain stuck in perpetual political wind-blowing.

So, how WILL one small, under-funded organization make a difference? (with your help):

1.) It begins with Reforming Game and Fish Departments nationally, beginning with a pilot program in New Mexico. Game and Fish Departments continue to operate in many cases with no Peer reviewed science, and are generally appointed because of their relationship to the livestock, oil and gas or sportsmen community, not the environmental community. They are controlled by political whims, outfitters and have made the killing of predator species a priority. The current slaughter of wolves in the northern Rockies is the clearest case in point.

2.)  How we organize the enormous, untapped urban populations in the US and around the world for the protection of wolves: stop spending precious resources organizing rural communities and ranchers! This standard tact has not only wasted millions of precious dollars, it has netted absolutely ZERO RETURN in conservation gains. In fact, this tactic has strengthened hunter-trapper-rancher coalitions, and allowed them insight into our strategy.

Instead, we will aggressively organize urban communities. Our true strength will be our sheer numbers.. We will also enlist the progressive business segment, so that they demonstrate to opponents their investment in their communities’ quality of life, and their support for their communities’ causes.

Those vast numbers will be organized through social media outlets: by expanding our already burgeoning group of over 60,000 progressive, activist voices worldwide, though social sites like Causes.com to over 500,000 by the end of 2016. The power of those voices stopped the city of Clovis, New Mexico’s prairie dog poisoning program dead in its tracks, when it had pointedly ignored the protestations of many others. The People are our power, and BVC is better than anyone at recruiting them, and implementing their Voices to stop wildlife injustice.

3.)  BVC is organizing our young people: they’re the future, and despite the fact elected officials tout our youth publicly as a veritable sacred trust, the reality is they ignore that generation’s best interests for today’s special interest like that of oil and gas and sportsmen. They are often uneasy having to attend events that result from the pressure of organized young voices. Our young people are our most powerful messengers! BVC has begun the Student Action Network for the Environment, or SANE, to attract youth internationally to educate, organize and create their own powerful voices to stop wolf and wildlife slaughter, and that of species and habitat around the globe.

4.)  We will petition, through “We The People” on whitehouse.gov, to educate our elected officials, and those in the outdoor industry, to institute a federal law/Executive Action that levies a 5% surcharge on outdoor recreational equipment and clothing. That money would then be earmarked specifically for endangered species habitat purchases and for reintroduction programs such as the Wolf and bears, and other species as apex predators, run by government agencies.

5.)  We will organize state-by-state, to introduce Legislation creating an Outdoor User Fee: citizens and tourists would pay $20 to enjoy that state’s great outdoors, with full waivers for low-income individuals and families. That money will directly fund that state’s Game and Fish Department. It will be earmarked for habitat improvement, and for wildlife reintroduction. A pilot program for this action will be initiated in New Mexico.

Those new funds would dwarf the revenues Game and Fish Departments currently collect from those who derive enjoyment harming wildlife: hunters and trappers. Overnight, the dynamic of agencies now beholden to the livestock industry, trappers, and sportsmen, would shift to America’s true outdoor enthusiasts, whose prime satisfaction is derived from enjoyment in, rather than the destruction of, healthy ecosystems. Agencies’ policy would be governed by the many, not the few, and hunting and trapping of wolves would face an immediate ban: finally, science, rather than blood-lust would manage our public lands and their wildlife diversity.

6.)  We will aggressively fight the livestock industry: OUR Public lands are for the PUBLIC. Ranchers lease these lands and do not own them. We believe that ranchers should face higher grazing fees, by means of a special restoration tax. Monies generated would restore lands badly damaged by livestock grazing. Since these lands are held in common for the American people we strongly believe that ranchers should be made to sign a covenant much like many do in a community that would state in return for their leases they could no longer kill predators.

Grazing is a privilege, not a right.

7.)  We will petition Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to greatly expand wilderness and other protections for our public lands.

We will also petition the U.S. Departments of Interior and Agriculture (which manages U.S. Forest lands), to greatly expand the American Wilderness System (wolf habitat). America needs millions more acres of wildlife habitat to insure the continuation of Endangered Species.

8.)  We have begun a Campaign to End All Trapping in America by 2020, with 35,000 supporters and growing every day. Trapping is subhuman, legalized torture, and BVC will work with other groups to end trapping in New Mexico by 2015, once again engaging youth to spearhead our proposal.

9.)  The most important aspect of BVC’s Plan is YOU. We must all show the burning fire in our hearts and demand change: change in policy, change from the conservation community, and a willingness to never compromise on issues, EVER. Our appeal is PASSION: while understanding the importance of science, we believe in the power of human emotion and passion to create change.

Our opponents lie, ignore science, and produce pseudo-science, specifically Game and Fish Departments. They promote fear, and use fictional personal stories to evoke emotion, to perpetuate the false, All-American appeal of rugged individualists, who bravely eke out a living in the West as the TRUE heroes of our Country. That stale propaganda works every time, and the ranchers are winning. We will show the truth, the story of ignorance, of lies, of destruction, and of rampant slaughter of wildlife and wild lands across America: the truth MUST be told.

Politicians of all stripes succumb to this emotional fabrication, narrated by ranchers and the segment of rural communities, who act as their allies. They hear nothing but dry facts and science from us, presented as if it’s a privilege to be heard by our Elected Public Servants, and as if our entire natural world is an ancillary issue, secondary to the more important matters of cows and oil. We must have emotion, guts, and a huge contingency of educated activists, to forever change this dynamic.

10.)  Finally, we will work to introduce federal legislation that stops the killing of wolves and predators as a whole. Such legislation—driven by our coalition’s emotion and determination, would force all agencies to share information on predators, through a carefully selected committee who, like the Supreme Court, would be free from political influence, and use science and participation from citizens, to work at a long-term restoration of our lands and the reintroduction of species diversity, to create fully-functioning ecosystems.

Wolves are a keystone species for the recovery of our wild, public lands. They remain the victims of a tired, myth-based misinformation campaign. They are the true wild spirits of our forests and our deserts.

WOLVES BELONG.

PLEASE JOIN US: without the True Majority of Citizens who truly care at our side, we are just another perpetual political wind, blowing hot air at no one. We need your support; we need your voice.

Here are five easy ways you can start making a difference now:
